Data Privacy Notice

WHO WE ARE

Your privacy is very important to us.  This privacy notice (“Privacy Notice”) is provided by Lloyds Yacht Club (the “Club”).  The purpose of the Club is to encourage sailing in the Lloyd’s Insurance market. 

The Club is the controller of your personal data under applicable data protection laws including the Data Protection Act 2018 which incorporates the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”). The Club, as the controller, determines why and how we collect your personal data.

References to “we”, “our” and “us” in this Privacy Notice are references to the Club   References to “you” or “your” refers to the individual whose personal data is being processed by the Club.  

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS PRIVACY NOTICE

In order to administer your Club membership, the Club may collect information about you which constitutes personal data under the relevant data privacy laws.  This Privacy Notice explains how the Club collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data.  Please read this Privacy Notice carefully to understand what we do with your personal data.

We may change this Privacy Notice from time to time and if we make any material changes then we will make the updated Privacy Notice available. 

  1. PERSONAL DATA WE MAY COLLECT ABOUT YOU.

In order for us to administer your Club membership, including your initial joining, the collection of your Club subscription fees and your subsequent participation in Club activities, we need to collect and process personal data about you. The types of personal data that are processed may include

Club members may also provide their telephone numbers to other Club members through a WhatsApp account.  This is on a voluntary basis between Club members in order to facilitate participation in Club activities and the WhatsApp account is not administered by the Club.  Club members should provide their telephone numbers to participate in the WhatsApp account only if they consent to their telephone number being shared with other club members in this way.

Club subscription direct debits and payments for activities are processed on behalf of the Club by third party payment platform providers GoCardless and Worldpay.  These are data processors under relevant data protection laws and the Club contracts with those providers require that technological safeguards are in place to keep the personal data of Club members secure.

  1. WHERE WE MIGHT COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL DATA FROM

We might collect your personal data from various sources, including:

• you.

• your family members

Which of the above sources apply will depend on your particular circumstances.

  1. WHO HAS ACCESS TO YOUR PERSONAL DATA?

The Club will not sell your personal data. The Club will never share your data with third parties (other than those referenced above) without your prior consent (you are free to withhold consent) except where we are required to do so by law.

  1. RETENTION OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We will keep your personal data while you are a member of the Club and for as long afterwards as is in the Club’s legitimate interest to do so or for as long as is necessary to comply with our legal obligations

  1. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

Your personal data will not be transferred out of the United Kingdom unless provided as legally required to Port and other authorities in those circumstances where Club activities take place outside of the United Kingdom.

  1. YOUR RIGHTS AND CONTACT DETAILS OF THE ICO

If you have any questions in relation to our use of your personal data, you should first contact the Membership department of the Club at membership@lloydsyachtclub.com

Under certain conditions, you may have the right to require us to:

  • provide you with further details on the use we make of your personal data/special categories of data;
  • provide you with a copy of the personal data that you have provided to us;
  • update any inaccuracies in the personal data we hold;
  • delete any special category of data/personal data that we no longer have a lawful ground to use;
  • where processing is based on consent, to withdraw your consent so that we stop that particular processing;
  • object to any processing based on the legitimate interests ground unless our reasons for undertaking that processing outweigh any prejudice to your data protection rights; and
  • restrict how we use your personal data whilst a complaint is being investigated.

YOUR RIGHT TO COMPLAIN TO THE ICO

If you are not satisfied with our use of your personal data or our response to any request by you to exercise any of your rights under this Section 6, or if you think that we have breached the Data Protection Act, then you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) Please see below for contact details of the ICO.
