Lutine Bell Race 19th – 21st May 2023

LutineUncategorized

Following the success of last year’s event, we are happy to announce that the Lutine Bell race is being held in May 2023 and is open to all LLYC members on their own boats, or on chartered boats. The Lutine Bell race started as an informal race in 1937 between Lloyd’s market members, the year before the LLYC was formed. The race starts outside Portsmouth Harbour and finishes at the entrance to the Grande Rade, Cherbourg, and the winners receive a replica of the Lutine Bell, which stands in the Lloyds Underwriting room.

This year the race will start at 19:30 BST on the evening of Friday 19th May. Depending on weather conditions we expect everyone to finish in Cherbourg during the course of the following day and berths will be available in Port Chantereyne, Cherbourg. A drinks party will be held aboard Lutine starting at 5pm BST followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

Also up for grabs is the Paul May Trophy awarded for the quickest time to and from Cherbourg for those who also wish to race home on the Sunday.

If you are interested in entering your own or a chartered boat, please contact Neil Armstrong at neilarmstrong01@hotmail.co.uk for copies of the Notice of Race, Entry Form, and Sailing Instructions. Advice on the necessary documentation and forms for exiting/entering the UK and France will also be available. There are also a few remaining spaces available on Lutine which can be booked via the LLYC website.
