Racing on Lutine
opportunities for all!
Whether you are an experienced racer, wishing to improve or experience or simply just try it out with the option to develop further, then the Lutine/LLYC experience could be perfect for you.
Our philosophy within the Club is to make racing accessible to as many members, of all ages, as possible. The focus is on the experience, learning and having a good time – you will not find ‘shouty skippers’ or a feeling of sailing inferiority, it is far more about being part of a team of generally mixed experience and achieving the best on a boat that will often grace you with the pleasure of fast on-the-water race times, given her size and despite her resultant high rating handicap. See below for examples of racing opportunities in a typical year…

JOG (Junior Offshore Group) & RORC races
We aim to take part in races such as Alderney, St Malo, Cherbourg and Guernsey, all of which involve offshore sailing and overnight racing combined with a social side at the finish along with great weekend cruising experience as well. We usually have 8 crew plus skipper on these races and work a watch system. So, all fantastic logbook experience for those who wish to keep formal track of their sailing for RYA qualifications.

Cowes Week (weekend)
Whilst the main part of Cowes Week is normally taken as a corporate charter, we offer the first weekend of racing to members and your results contribute to the overall week’s results – so no pressure! A hugely popular entrée to the UK’s most prestigious sailing event.

Fastnet Race
Every 2 years, Lutine takes part in this now 690 nautical mile legendary offshore race which in 2023 will precede Cowes Week at the end of July and now finishes in Cherbourg, 2021 having been the first for the new course. We crew Lutine to its full capacity of 13 crew plus skipper operating a 2-watch system throughout. Fastnet represents the pinnacle of the Club’s and Lutine’s sailing calendar. The intention is to develop a cohesive team who have put in a lot of sailing hours on the water together, are trained to the best of their individual abilities and who above all else, have fun and complete a life experience that not only tests them but provides enduring new relationships of a shared adventure.

Finn Trophy
Lloyd’s annual racing against the Stock Exchange and the Baltic Exchange. We encourage members who have boats to enter them and Lutine will be entered for those who wish to book via the website. The event is normally held in September with racing in the Solent followed by dinner and prize giving at The Royal Yacht Squadron.
