LUTINE

SAILING AT ITS BEST

At 55 feet, and despite being equipped to the highest standards, Lutine weighs just 16 tonnes.   How?  Modern yacht designs use a sandwich construction to save weight, with solid laminate used in areas requiring extra strength.  In addition the X55 has a carbon fibre rig, with a strength to weight ratio far outperforming a conventional mast.  It all adds up to be a real thoroughbred.

Sailing

Lutine benefits from a hydraulic backstay and vang, two speed genoa and mainsheet winches and even an electric halyard winch.  It doesn’t preclude anyone from “grinding” but for those who want a more leisurely sail it makes sail handling a doddle.  Solid rod rigging, on a carbon fibre mast, gives a stiff rig that makes for great sailing performance.  Even when it comes to dropping sail  at the end of the day the “Park Avenue” carbon fibre boom makes it easy, effortlessly catching the sail as it is dropped.

As for the sail wardrobe we have everything from rugged cruising sails for everyday use through to North 3Dls for racing.  Add to that both symmetric and asymmetrics (including the distinctive “Lloyd’s” kites) and it means the X-55 is equipped for any eventuality.

Twin carbon fibre wheels give a responsive but balanced helm and comprehensive electronics at the nav station and on deck make for safe and easy passage making.

Accommodation

Lutine can sleep up to 12 across 3 cabins, the saloon and the forepeak.  Each of the two aft cabins has a cot berth together with a large double berth which can be split in to two singles with a lee-cloth.   The saloon sofas form a further two single berths and the “owners” cabin has a further single and a double, which can again be split using a lee-cloth.  Finally the forepeak has a single cot berth.   There are three roomy “heads” (each with a shower): the onboard water-maker turns sea water into fresh water at the rate of 100 litres an hour – so you don’t have to ration water – even when racing offshore.  Heating and air conditioning throughout the boat make it comfortable below from the depths of winter to the height of summer.     The well equipped galley is ideal for ensuring guests are well looked after and the flat screen TV provides an opportunity to watch a movie,  “keep in touch” with the outside world, or even show promotional material to your guests.
